Bridget Cassie and Rory Harnden Cycle Coromandel!!!!

Story

Kia ora e te whanau!

We’ll be cycling 300km over three days around the Coromandel to raise money for ADRA (more below), and their work in Cambodia, all while eating as many marmite sandwiches as we can carry in our funny little spandex pockets, and trying not to walk up too many hills.

For the last several months, we’ve been cycling the hills of Wellington, been through about five litres of sunscreen a piece, and endured some of the worst music on offer at local Saturday-morning spin classes.

If you’d like to support Rory and Bridget in their endeavours, and the good people of ADRA and their work, or just to proclaim your support for yeast-based spreads in general, please visit us at the link below. Every dollar or share is hugely appreciated – by us, ADRA, and the people of Cambodia!

On ADRA’s work:

ADRA's aim is to enable families to live life to the full, and to thrive! In ADRA's view access and opportunities to education, health and sustainable livelihoods are incredibly important and big focus to the work they do.

Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in Asia, with 90% of the country’s most impoverished population living in rural areas and dependent on agriculture as a means of both food and income. Growing competition from imported produce, the inability to access markets and lower quality and quantity of produce are making it increasingly hard for families to make enough money to pay for essentials beyond their own subsistence – children are being taken out of school and families are going without medicines when they are sick, further reinforcing the cycle of poverty and leaving families further behind.

The project supports farmers in the Pursat Province through providing agricultural and business training. Farmers work together in cooperative producer groups to have higher negotiation power and better access to markets while also improving the quantity and quality of produce. Together, these activities grow the income and economic resilience of farmers, strengthening the rural economy and reducing poverty.

This project is a part of the NZ Government match scheme. So, this means that for every $1 raised by us for this project, ADRA can access another $3 in match funding, and having 4 times the impact.

The human faces of this project are children and their families who will have the ability to attend school, to afford healthcare, to afford better nutrition, and ultimately to have the chance to thrive.
